Nothing says Napa Style like wine barrels. We use them for just about everything including furniture. This trend continues to grow. I remember 20 or so years ago people use half of a wine barrel for a flower planter and that was about it. Now we see everything from entire walls covered with wine staves, chairs, dining tables, chandeliers, ladders, coffee tables and so much more.
Wine Barrel Furniture is sturdy, solid and the wood is made to weather so it looks great outdoors. There are a variety of barrel styles. Barrels that had been full of red wine will have a red stain on the inside and some stains on the outside. All of which build character and bring the valley to your home.
According to Wine Enthusiast, most winemakers use barrels from 2 to 5 years, and then they are disregarded. (You can learn all about the wine fermenting process and the various methods used here. It is when these barrels are discarded that the magic happens. Designers of wine barrel furniture have been around for some time. Even back in the early winemaking days of the Napa Valley discarded barrels had become various art projects by prominent local artists. It wasn't until recently though that the popularity has taken off. Perhaps a lot of it has to do with the fact that we love to reclaim, recycle, and repurpose our discarded trash. There are entire television shows on HGTV and other channels that feature nothing but reclaiming and repurposing items into household decor and furniture. Shows like "Flea Market Flip," "West End Salvage", "Salvage Dogs" and "Cash & Cari" are targeted specifically at repurposing items into household decor and furniture.
I can remember back when my wife and I owned a small antique store. Our most profitable items were always repurposed and or reclaimed items. We used to love the thrill of trolling back alleys in search of the discarded table, chair, couch, etc. you would be amazed at the items we found people no longer wanted. One of the best feelings I eve enjoyed was the thrill and content satisfaction one gets when you find a discarded item, restore and or repurpose the item into something another person finds value in.
With each Wine, Barrel item is a story from the winemaker, the wine itself. Knowing hundreds of bottles of wine has been created from a single barrel and that barrel is now part of your home. This is a comforting feeling. Below are a handful of special Wine Barrel items we thought you would find unique and perfect for you home. This is by no means an end-all list. there are hundreds of places to shop for wine barrel accessories and furniture. You will find a resource list at the end of our picks. Enjoy.
