Where to fuel up before a day of California wine tasting or to recover from too much the day before.

Boon Fly Café

Set inside The Carneros Inn outside of Napa, locals flock to the casual Boon Fly for its homemade doughnuts. On the weekend, brunch features green eggs and ham—poached farm eggs wrapped in honey-cured ham on hash browns underneath a coating of lemon-leek cream. Start things off with a Brunch Martini of vodka, orange juice and sparkling rosé.

The Fremont Diner

Best breakfast donuts in NapaLocated outside of the town of Sonoma, this old-style farmhouse diner specializes in Southern food, sourcing much of the ingredients from its acres out back. Get an order of shrimp and grits or a hangtown fry (omelet) made with Drakes Bay oysters, but only if you can resist the chicken and waffle with syrup and sweet butter.

Auberge du Soleil

With its wraparound balcony and panoramic vistas, Rutherford-based Auberge du Soleil makes a wonderful perch from where to start your day. The daily breakfast offerings include myriad options, ranging from the house breakfast pizza (scrambled eggs and smoked salmon) to the Esperanza breakfast of huevos rancheros, scrambled eggs, chorizo and black beans.

Gott’s Roadside

A longstanding St. Helena institution, the beloved Taylor’s Refresher, renamed Gott’s Roadside, has started serving breakfast daily. The varied offerings include the Classic—a scrambled egg and bacon sandwich—and potato and egg tacos, as well as more standard fare like granola, French toast and hash browns.

French Blue

St. Helena locals buzz about French Blue’s breakfast, crafted around fresh chorizo and baked farm eggs, as well as omelets dripping with Cowgirl Creamery Mt. Tam cheese. The oven-baked blueberry pancake in rhubarb maple syrup will please big and little kids, and be sure to add a side of wood-fired sage breakfast sausage, one of the house specialties.

Nick’s Cove

Known for great farm-to-table cuisine and its amazing waterside views of Tomales Bay, near where Marin gives way to Sonoma County, Nick’s makes a stellar weekend brunch, all the better to be enjoyed after staying the night in one of its 12 coastal cabins. Raw or cooked local oysters star, or indulge in the house special crab mac n’ cheese, crab Benedict, oyster po’boy or brioche French toast.

Singletree Cafe

A venerated Healdsburg institution where the early bird special of two eggs, home fries and toast goes for only $2.95 and breakfast is served all day. The Singletree might not look pretty from the outside, but its food, from buttermilk pancakes to a range of omelets, will set you right after a night of indulging, or help you prepare for a day of tasting ahead.Auberge in Napa Valley

Willow Wood Market Café

Set in tiny Graton, expect to wait at Willow Wood, as the gourmet, old-timey spot is popular with locals who come for the fresh-baked bread and homemade preserves adorning every egg dish. The challah French toast is also sublime, as is Lulu’s granola, served on yogurt with a side of milk. Breakfast served daily, with brunch on Sunday.

Mateo’s Cocina Latina

Spice up your weekend morning with brunch at Yucatan-born chef Mateo Granados’s wonderful Healdsburg spot, complete with an outdoor patio. He uses Sonoma-grown ingredients to offer squash blossom empanadas, local seafood-infused ceviche and blue corn pancakes. The huevos Motuleños is a plate of olive-oil-fried eggs with ham, seasonal veggies and tomato-habanero sauce wrapped in a handmade corn tortilla.

Downtown Bakery & Creamery

An outpost of deliciousness in downtown Healdsburg since 1987, the Creamery is always bursting with fresh-made breads, sticky buns, donut muffins and savory-sweet scones. The eatery now offers seating and a café menu, too, which is available Friday through Monday. It sports an array of pancakes, cheesy scrambled eggs, quiches, pizzas, calzones and more.
